In and out of love (with design)

UX design is a process that we love to explore, extrapolate and expound to one another and to those outside the field. We love to delve into data, make discoveries about needs and desires, create stories, ideate future versions of products and create beautiful art on different mediums.

This is a pretty succinct version of what we do, but explaining our work can become tedious. Stakeholders don’t enjoy the nuts and bolts like we do. They just want to hear the end result. It can be a constant battle of advocating for your ideas, presenting ideas and going back to the whiteboard.

If you find yourself having trouble advocating for your work, here is a song you can sing to really drive home the essence of UX design…

Cue the rock band

In and out of sprints
In and out of sprints
(Wow ahh)
In and out of sprints
In and out of sprints

I’ve got my data

its ready for analysis

the artifacts are factual

cause they were provided by our SMEs

Deep but narrow subject learning

is all we need to succeed in this project

discoveries take us all the way to the client

They want to know how to succeed too

Hear what I’m sayin’
(In and out of sprints)
It’s the ideas we’re creating
(In and out of sprints)
Too much data is never enough
Scrum Master is gonna get ya

Ideating like crazy

When my team hits the whiteboard

finish the sprint

just in time for retros and sprint reviews

Then we are on to the next sprint

one more down, how many more to go

Whats in the backlog

gotta find out what tasks are for me

Hear what I’m sayin’
(In and out of sprints)
It’s the ideas that we’re creating
(In and out of sprints)
When we’re on point
(In and out of sprints)
the user is the winner in the end

Hear what I’m sayin’
(In and out of sprints)
It’s the ideas we’re creating
(In and out of sprints)
Too much data is never enough
Scrum Master is gonna get you

Ahh

Ooohh

In and out of sprints
In and out of sprints
In and out of sprints
We are in and out of sprints

You’ve got the process
(In and out of sprints)
Hey dev team
(In and out of sprints)
Just how many logos did you make anyway
(In and out of sprints)

This song was adapted from Bon Jovi’s 1985 release “In and out of love.”

You’re welcome.
